Hi guys,
I’m trying to learn dance by myself, but its not working that good and I want to take classes, but I’m too embarrassed to tell my mom, because she doesn’t know the "real me".
She thinks that I am a completely different person. So what should I do?
Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone,
For those of you I don't know, my name is Mike Legett, from Atlanta. I'm trying to make it up for Portland's tango festival in Feb. Unfortunately, I'm in the process of changing jobs right now, so cash is a bit scarce. Are there any swing dancers interested in hosting a pair of tango dancers for a few days to a week?

Also, if anyone's interested in taking lindy or blues privates, I've taught and competed at many East coast events (most recently, Lindy Focus), and performed in the Jump Session show in May.

Email me if you think you could help me out, or you'd like more info about my teaching credentials: immaculateconnection at gmail dot com.

Cheers,

Hi everyone,
I have always wanted to learn how to dance and I am considering starting lessons. I would really like to do the type of dancing that the pompon girls in high school do...It just looks actually fun. What kind of dance is it called that is most similar to this? Jazz? Hip-Hop? Does anyone know?
Thanks!

Hi, I am also a dancer. The only thing that you can really do to improve is practicing. Stretch three well before you start dancing. Practice things like sashays, leaps, pirouettes, etc. across the floors and practice dances that you have learned in class. You might even want to make up some of your own dances and put it to your own music because then you will learn a little about choreographing and will learn more dance creativity. Just make sure that you practice dancing for at least an hour every day. I came across a book titled “Think like a champion dance like a star” written by www dot 100percentdance dot com Grant Davies. It tells you the basics of dancing and how to improve on them. It really helped in adding magic. If you get hold of this book, do read it. Hope the book helps you too.

I'm not sure if this is the right forum (or web site) to ask the questions you have. The type of dancing you're interested in more individual and west coast swing is a partner dance. While I don't have any tips to offer for your particular question, if you have an interest in learning partner dancing, any of the swing dances in Portland is a great place to get your start.

I am in middle school and I just started dancing jazz, tap, Hip Hop, and a Modern "fun" class. I am a little overweight so it is a little hard for me to be like the sticks in my class. I want to go to ADTC (American Dance Training Camp) and Camp Med-o-Lark, which has a huge dance program. I want to go to a dance boarding school like the School of American Ballet, but that is for professionals. Is there any other boarding school like SAB? Moreover, how can I improve my dancing performance?
Thank you!

Hi lagogo,

Normally, the Portland Dance Consortium has a big New Year's Eve dance at the Norse Hall. They have a big mix of different dance styles. I would recommend that.

Here's the web page for 2006's party:
http://home.comcast.net/~bonnie.hertz/

You might contact Bonnie Hertz to see if there's a 2007 party in the works.

Hope you find a great dance party for New Year's Eve!
