About Lavaun Heaster
Lavaun Heaster lives in Portland, Oregon. She has lived with Type I diabetes since the age of 9 and has faced the challenge of managing her health responsibly for many years now. In spite of the fact that diabetes claimed much of her eyesight 15 years ago, she has led a very active life.
Social dancing and cooking for others are her great passions. Until recently, she worked as a full-time social services professional, helping to improve health outcomes for diverse communities and individuals. Having found ways to stay positive while living with a chronic condition for so long made it easy for Lavaun to relate to peoples needs. For many years she has served her community as a volunteer serving worthy causes and those in need.
Now Lavaun herself is need (of financial assistance) as she faces the prospect of dialysis and a kidney/pancreas transplant. Currently Lavaun is paying for her medical care through the Kaiser Permanente system. Her transplant will be performed at Oregon Health & Science University. She is raising money to pay for uninsured medical expenses associated with her kidney/pancreas transplant.
